Dhamma USA Sāvana Full Moon Day Youth Retreat

Sāvana Full Moon Day Online Retreat

Sunday August 9, 2020

Please join Dhamma USA on Sunday August 9th, 2020 to celebrate Sāvana Uposatha. This program will be held online via Zoom and will be conducted in English.

Importance of Sāvana Uposatha:

Sāvana (Sanskrit: Śrāvaṇa; Sinhala: Nikini; Thai: Savana; Burmese: Wagaung; Khmer: Srap) Uposatha (full moon day) celebrates the Dhamma Sangayana, or the First Buddhist Council. The council was held shortly after the parinibbāna of the Buddha. It was here that Ānanda, the Treasurer of the Dhamma, recited from memory the Buddha's teachings, thus forming the Sutta Piṭaka. The meeting was held in the Sattapanni cave in Rajgir, India.
